Vodafone UK has teamed up with Amazon to become the first UK mobile company to offer Amazon Prime Video as part of its mobile plans.
The agreement means that Vodafone UK customers will be able to enjoy Amazon prime Video series such as The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and The Grand Tour, and forthcoming series Cloak and Dagger and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as part of a Vodafone Red Entertainment plan.
New and upgrading customers will have access to the service, with the ability to view Amazon Prime content at home or on the go, including across the EU. Viewers that want to watch the content outside the EU can access ‘Watch While Abroad’ titles in other roam-free destinations.
The agreement means that Vodafone Red Entertainment customers will be able to view Amazon content across multiple compatible devices, including smart TVs, game consoles, phones, tablets and laptops.
From today, new and upgrading customers will be able to select Prime Video as their entertainment option within the Red Entertainment plan, as will existing Red Entertainment customers who are yet to choose their content partner.
Glafkos Persianis, commercial director Vodafone UK, said “We know our customers love being able to watch their favourite films and TV shows on the go, and with Prime Video on us, they’ll have even more top-quality, award-winning options at their fingertips. We’re delighted to provide our customers with some of the best entertainment available today.”
Jay Marine, VP Amazon Prime Video, Europe, said: “We love giving Prime Video members more ways to enjoy their favourite TV shows and movies so we’re delighted Vodafone UK is making Prime Video available to their customers. This is yet another way customers can easily watch the latest Prime Original Series and exclusive TV shows like multi-award-winning The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, The Grand Tour and the highly-anticipated Jack Ryan starring John Krasinski. Ahead of TV shows like this launching this summer, it’s great to be giving customers more options on how they watch, whether at home or on the go.”
Vodafone’s deal with Amazon follows hard on the heels of BT’s announcement in May that it would include Amazon Video as part of its TV offering, becoming the first UK pay TV service provider to offer the services as part of its overall offering.
At the same time, BT announced that it was enabling users of its TV app to download and play content on the go for the first time, and that it was making the app available via Samsung smart TVs, Apple TV and Google Chromecast.
Vodafone pulled back from plans to launch its own set-top-based TV service for fixed customers at the beginning of last year to focus on its mobile offering.
