TV remote control and smart home technology specialist Universal Electronics has named Menno Koopmans as senior vice-president and managing director for EMEA.

Koopmans has worked at Universal Electronics for over 11 years in various product, marketing and sales leadership roles, both in the business-to-consumer and business-to-business segments.

In his new role he will report to chief operating officer Louis Hughes, who is based at the company’s headquarters in Santa Ana, California, and is responsible for all global commercial, engineering and manufacturing activities.

Koopmans replaces Paul Bennett, who stepped down at the end of December after working for the company for 20 years.

“The industry has changed dramatically in the 11 years that I’ve been working for Universal Electronics, and 2017 looks set to be a really exciting time for the company with plenty of opportunities for growth and innovation,” said Koopmans.

“We all wish Paul the best of luck in his new role, and we couldn’t have asked for anyone more talented and competent than Menno to succeed him. For over a decade, Menno has played a really vital part in the company’s growth, and over the last three years he’s helped transform our subscription broadcast business to become the market leader in smart remote controls. I’m looking forward to continuing our work together and striving for excellence,” said Paul Arling, chairman and CEO of Universal Electronics.
