The top five most popular US over-the-top services by subscribers remained consistent over the past year with Netflix in the leadfollowed by Amazon Video, according to Parks Associates.
The new research places Hulu third, followed by Major League Baseball’s MLB.TV service in fourth and WWE Network in fifth place.
The rest of the top 10, in order, are Sling TV, HBO Now, Crunchroll, Showtime, and CBS All Access, according to the report.
“Importantly, all of these services have increased their subscriber base over the past year. The top five OTT services have stayed consistent, primarily through maintaining or growing the massive user and subscriber bases that they have built over the past several years,” said Brett Sappington, senior director of Research, Parks Associates.
As of the third quarter of 2016, Parks estimates that 63% of US broadband households subscribe to an OTT service – up from 57% at the beginning of 2015.
“We are clearly seeing OTT video moving to the television. OTT users watch OTT services on their TV screens between 17-20 days per month, much more than platforms such as a PC, smartphone, or tablet,” said Sappington.
