BBC completes global iPlayer Radio app rollout

iplayer radioThe BBC’s global iPlayer radio app is now available globally in all territories supported by the Apple App Store, the Google Play store, and the Amazon Store – including China.

The BBC launched the app in the Republic of Ireland last month, marking the first stage of its planned worldwide rollout for the service.

The BBC said that the free app, which has been available in the UK since 2012, will “transform access to BBC Radio programmes internationally”.

International users are now able to listen to live radio, including the BBC World Service in English, catch-up on BBC Radio programmes and download podcasts.

“We have a valued audience of 66 million globally for the English BBC World Service,” BBC World Service English controller, Mary Hockaday, said last month.

“I’m thrilled the new BBC iPlayer Radio app offers another way for listeners around the world to find and enjoy our programmes, and take them with them wherever they go.”
