Vizrt unveils new UHD VoD transcoder

Vizrt will demo new 4K/UHD live streaming and multi-platform transcoding capabilities in its next generation transcoder, named Coder.

This new tool will be available as part of the Viz One media asset management system and as a standalone component that can be used with other Vizrt products including the Viz Engine.

Coder supports content production for video-on-demand – distributed via the web and on mobile – with UHD resolutions, including the addition of graphics.

Viz One users can select a storage destination and Coder transcodes all of the required variants. System configuration is done via web-based interfaces.

Coder supports dynamic scheduling of jobs and can distribute VoD, proxy or live transcoding jobs on a server farm based on transcoder load and job requirements. It also uses five to ten times lower disk IO than previous generations of transcoder, according to Vizrt.

“Media companies are now publishing more and more video content for multiple platforms while dealing with a growing number of formats. Coder gives them a tool that makes the adoption of those formats dramatically faster,” said Petter Ole Jakobsen, CTO at Vizrt.
