Satellite operator SES’s German HD platform HD+ reached three million households at the end of last year, with 1.65 million of those paying for a service, an increase of 17% on 2013.
The remaining 1.4 million homes using the service were in the free trial period, according to SES.
According to SES, its latest German market research shows that the number of HD satellite households in Germany exceeded the ten million mark at the end of 2014 for the first time. In addition to the overall satellite total, a further 6.6 million households watch HD via cable and one million via IPTV, giving a total number of HD households of 17.6 million, about 24% more than a year before.
HD+ provides an HD broadcast platform for 20 private broadcasters in Germany, and HD+ users can receive over 30 other free-to-air channels in HD-quality.
