Notts TV goes live

Local UK TV station for the Nottingham area, Notts TV, is due to launch tonight on Freeview channel 8.

The channel has been granted a 12-year licence and will initially run seven days a week from 16:00 to midnight, and then from earlier in the day as more programming becomes available.

A consortium of the Nottingham Post newspaper, Nottingham Trent University, Confetti Media Group and Inclusive Digital is running Notts TV.

The channel marks the latest UK local TV channel launch, part of a government-lead drive to roll out channels that offer local news coverage and programming. London Live went live in the capital at the end of March and last month Comux, the infrastructure joint venture set up to support the launch of local digital-terrestrial TV channels, switched on new transmitters last month to bring services to Liverpool, Manchester and Preston.
