RTL strikes German OTT deal with Magine

RTL Deutschland has inked a deal with OTT service Magine.

The exclusive agreement means RTL’s six free-to-air channels will be carried on Magine. The RTL offerings in question are the core RTL channel as well as Vox, N-TV, RTL Nitro, Super RTL and RTL II.

Magine makes full linear channels available over the top and rolled out in Sweden earlier this year.

In Germany the Beta version is currently available with would-be subs encouraged to sign up for the full commercial launch later this year. It will be carried on Apple devices and via Samsung connected TVs with an Android version in the works.

Marc Schröder, executive board member of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and managing director of RTL interactive said: “By distributing our linear TV programs via Magine, the viewers have an additional option to receive our free TV offering via the internet. At the same time, Magine’s user friendliness is unique. That is why we see such great potential in this collaboration”.

Earlier this month Magine secured a $19 million cash injection and plans to launch elsewhere in Europe. A Spanish launch has been announced and the UK understood to be a priority market.
