Hispasat to deliver digital cinema

Spanish satellite operator Hispasat, the Madrid Callao cinema, post-production specialist Deluxe Spain, technology giant Ericsson and system integrator  have come together to distribute films to cinemas across the country via satellite.

Films will be distributed over the Hispasat 1E satellite. The group estimates that they will be able to distribute 20,000 film copies and 30,000 trailers per year to 2,000 movie theatres across Spain. The Madrid Callao cinema, one of the oldest theatres in Spain, will be the first to receive films via satellite.

Hispasat will supply its satellite fleet’s space segment; Ericsson has designed the technology platform; MoMe will provide overall system integration and act as service provider; while Deluxe Spain, a service provider responsible for most of cinematographic material distribution in Spain, will include this solution to its services.
