Mediaset voices TV advertising concerns

A senior executive at Mediaset has said that the TV advertising market shows no signs of improving this year or next and that the Italian media giant faces renewed competition from Internet-focused rivals.

Reuters reports Marco Paolini, strategic marketing director for Mediaset as saying: “We expect the advertising market will be very bad in 2012 and will remain as such in 2013, at the best.”

The Mediaset executive also voiced concern about new competitors in its sector. He said: “Five years ago Mediaset was concerned about the arrival of the Murdoch group, today it fears Google, Apple and Facebook. I think the real problems will come from there in the next three years.”
