City TV hires Canis to advise on Birmingham bid

The UK’s City TV Broadcasting has appointed Canis Media as broadcast consultants to support its planned launch of a local TV channel in Birmingham and application for a local digital TV programme service (L-DTPS) licence.

“We want to work with experienced professional advisors to ensure that our team can concentrate on our bid. With the right team we can ensure that City TV offers high production values, entertaining programming and substantial local news and current affairs offering. The appointment of Canis Media shows how serious we are about launching City TV,” said Debra Davis, CEO of City TV. “Our intention is to pre-empt our application for the DTT licence by launching on another platform first, such as Sky, and on broadband. We intend to get programmes on air within the next few months – once funding is in place.”

Davis said she believed Birmingham was one of the few cities able to support local TV on multiple platforms in the UK.
