Price erosion hits German TV sales

The value of sales of TVs in Germany fell in the first nine months of the year, but is expected to recover somewhat in the pre-Christmas period.

The value sales of TVs by 7.3% year-on-year for the first nine months of 2011, according to the CEMIX consumer electronics market index.

TV sales amounted to €4 billion, with sales by volume falling by 0.9% to 6.5 million units. LCD TV sales grew by 2.3%, while about 32% of TVs sold had an internet connection and 86% had an integrated digital HD tuner. About 775,000 3D-capable sets were sold.

A decline in the price of LCD TVs helped push the overall market for consumer electronics down by 5.2% for the first nine months. Overall, about 8.5 million LCD TV are expected to be sold over the full year, accounting for the bulk of the nine million TVs sold. However the value of sales is expected to be down by about 6% for the full year.
