Canal Plus claims record viewing for Canalplus.fr

French pay TV operator Canal Plus’s Canalplus.fr portal recorded 45 million videos viewed in September, with an average of 1.6 million views per day, up 197% year-on-year.

Canal Plus said the growth was due to the success of flagship programmes including Le Grand Journal, SAV, Le Petit Journal, Les Guignols, Bref and its Champions League football coverage. Canalplus.fr recorded 7.7 million unique users over the month, up 91% on the previous year.

France’s Journal du Net recently classed Canalplus.fr as the leading ‘social’ TV channel website in the country – meaning it led the pack for interactions on Facebook among sites (other than e-commerce sites) with over 200,000 unique users a month.

Canalplus.fr registered 538,000 Facebook interactions between September 5-16, including 255,000 ‘likes’. The operator said that it now had 9.7 million Facebook fans for its programmes overall, giving it the biggest community on the social networking site amongst French TV channels.
