UK cinemagoers unimpressed by 3D

Only one in five UK cinemagoers believe that 3D improves the film viewing experience, according to a poll by YouGov.

According to the survey, 22% of UK cinemagoers believe that 3D has a positive impact on the experience, while 47% thought it made no difference or had a negative impact. Only 19% felt that 3D improved the quality of a film, while 41% believed the technology was a gimmick.

About 47% of respondents said they would choose to watch a film in 3D if it was being shown in 2D and 3D simultaneously for the same price, while 37% said they would view it in 2D. Some 48% of cinemagoers said they would not pay extra to watch a movie in 3D.
