RTL given green light for Indian expansion

European broadcaster RTL Group has been given the green light by Indian authorities to launch two thematic channels in India.

The company, which operates 46 channels in 11 countries across Europe, struck a joint venture deal with Indian broadcaster Reliance Broadcast Network in March. 
The country’s Foreign Investment Promotion Board has given RTL clearance for its proposed Foreign Direct Investment in the new joint venture, which is called Big Showbiz Broadcast.

The new company is expected to launch two channels – a reality network and a male skewing action channel – by the end of the year. Both channels will air series from RTL’s production and distribution arm FremantleMedia.
