Telco Telefónica, public broadcaster RTVE and Mediaset Spain (owner of commercial broadcaster Telecinco) have teamed up to trial HbbTV services in Spain.
Telefónica is providing infrastructure for the connected TV trial, which will last until the end of the year ahead of the possible launch of services in 2012.
Telecinco chief Paolo Vasile, RTVE corporate director Jaime Gaiteiro and Telefónica Spain business development director Javier Aguilera, presenting the project, said they would look to involve additional partners including TV manufacturers and broadcasters. Spains other leading commercial broadcaster, Antena 3, has not so far agreed to take part.
