Romtelecom looking to further develop web TV service

Romtelecom’s new web TV service has generated 770,000 unique visitors since it launched in March, according to Peter Telpak, product marketing and TV business director, residential segment at the Romanian telco.

Telpak, speaking at the Digital TV Central and Eastern Europe conference yesterday, said that the operator was mulling whether to expand the availability and scope of the service, which offers catch-up and video-on-demand programming and is currently purely browser-based and targeted at PCs.

“We have not decided yet to deliver it to set-top boxes, because this something we’re not sure about,” he said. “One advantage of OTT is it can deliver your content over [third-party] broadband networks with a sufficient user experience, and we would like to investigate that.”
