MTS moves forward with Volga region upgrade

Russian service provider MTS Group has completed the construction and modernization of its fixed network in the city of Balakovo in the Saratov region in southern European Russia.

The new FTTB network will be able to deliver services to about 78,000 homes in the city, and will allow customer previously only able to take pay TV services to subscribe to broadband internet services as well, with download speeds of up to 100Mbps.

MTS plans to complete upgrades and network contruction projects in the Volga Federal District covering about 260,000 households by the end of this year, according to Vitaly Klishin, the director of the Volga branch of MTS-subsidiary Comstar Regions.
