BBC launching news app for Samsung TVs

UK public broadcaster the BBC is launching a news application for Samsung connected televisions. The move is part of the broadcaster’s strategy to launch its news services on a variety of platforms.

The announcement was made by Ralph Rivera, director, BBC Future Media at a two-day BBC Online event in London, where the broadcaster hosted over 175 people from a cross-section of media companies. More details will be announced later but the deal is the first news app to launch on Samsung’s web-connected televisions.

Rivera also announced that since opening up iPlayer to redirect to rival broadcasters’ web services it has sent 1.4 million requests.
