Pace working with Comcast on Xfinity TV trial

UK set-top box manufacturer Pace won a contract to supply equipment to US cable MSO Comcast.

Pace is working with Comcast to launch a new hybrid DVR set-top box with tru2way and IP capabilities. Comcast is using the Pace set-top box platform in a market trial of its next-generation Xfinity TV service in Augusta, Georgia. Comcast’s other technology partners include Intel, which is providing the system-on-a-chip platform for the new set-top boxes, and Comcast-backed video publishing company thePlatform.

Comcast is trialling a personalized user experience, My TV, that allows users to see and access all of their recordings, favourites and recommendations in one place that reflects their interests, favourite series, sports teams, movies and music. It also includes interactive applications including traffic and weather information, as well as integration with Facebook.

Separately, another European set-top provider, ADB, has announced that it is delivering its commercial video solution to Charter Communications for hotels’ video entertainment services. The commercial video solution runs on ADB’s recently-launched ‘set-back’ boxes and works in tru2Way or legacy networks, both for analogue and digital implementations.
