Digital channels boost ITV

UK commercial broadcaster ITV saw its bouquet of digital channels grow its audience share by 11% in the first three months of the year. This comes as the broadcaster announced an 11% rise in group revenues to £500 million (€570 million).

The company said that its family of channels, which includes ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, CITV and its HD channels, increased its share of the commercial audience from 39.6% to 40.3%.
Advertising revenues were up by 12% in the first quarter compared to last year, however, it noted that its second quarter will be up to 8% lower as a result of a tough advertising climate and difficult comparisons with last year, which included the World Cup soccer tournament.

”The continuing volatility in the TV advertising market underlines the need for us to keep firmly focused on our five year transformation plan. While we are still in the early stages, the foundations are now being put in place for a more balanced, creatively dynamic and robust business,” said chief executive Adam Crozier.
