Sky Deutschland secures exclusive UEFA rights

Pay TV operator Sky Deutschland has secured rights to air Champions League and Europa League football matches for the three seasons from 2012-15.

The deal gives Sky the rights to broadcast all 16 UEFA Champions League games per match day live, 15 of them exclusively. Each match is available either separately or in the original Sky Conference HD link-up format. In the Europa League, Sky will continue to show all matches featuring German teams, with only one of these available on free-to-air TV.

Sky has also secured web, IPTV and mobile rights, enabling it to delivery coverage via its Sky Sport Mobile app for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Carsten Schmidt, head of sports, advertising sales and internet, said: “With new agreements for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League we have delivered for our customers. The new rights contracts ensure even more exclusivity for games with German participation than before. In addition, we can offer our customers all of the live broadcasts, not only at home but also when on the go with the Sky Sports App for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. With the acquisition of these rights only Sky offers football fans the complete experience from the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, in addition to Bundesliga Football, live and in HD.”
