Europe’s second-highest court has dismissed a challenge by French broadcaster TF1 against a European Commission decision to clear a French levy on TV companies to finance independent productions.
The Commission said in 2006 that the French scheme complied with EU state aid rules as it encouraged cultural development. TF1 challenged the decision at the General Court, which dismissed the action, saying that TF1 has not demonstrated that its competitive position is substantially affected in relation to the other television services provided”.
