Sky Deutschland launches VOD over iPad

Sky Deutschland has launched an iPad app that allows subscribers to access on-demand sports news and content from the Apple device.

The News Corp-backed German pay-TV operator has already launched the service, which was developed with a range of technology partners including TV technology firm Irdeto. Users who download the app can see live streaming of sports events and access news and clips.

Marcello Maggioni, senior vice-president, Customer Group at Sky Deutschland said: “I firmly believe that providing even sharper cutting edge to our offer to subscribers, even beyond the TV screen, is a great way to increase our already outstanding customer satisfaction and make Sky even more attractive to all future customers.”

Irdeto said its broadband solution used in the development of the iPad application includes metadata control and enhancement, which allows metadata to be quality-controlled and enhanced with additional information such as keyword tags, cast lists, genre information or additional language translations and video editing and segmentation.
