Sky Deutschland in talks with cable to extend reach

News Corp-backed German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland is talking to several of the country’s cable operators with a view to gaining wider distribution.

Sky CEO Brian Sullivan told German press that the company was having “good talks with a number of cable companies”. These include the country’s two largest operators Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia, the Sky boss said.

The pay-TV operator has about 2.5 million subscribers, but would need a reported three million to reach breakeven. Sullivan told the Handeslbatt newspaper that the operator wanted to reach customers via as many distribution channels as possible.
