Blu-ray sales expected to soar

Sales of Blu-ray players in Europe are expected to break records this year, with around 4.6 million units sold across the EU, according to the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO).

EITO predicts that revenues from Blu-ray sales will rise by 49% to €770m this year, with the upward trend continuing into 2011. The average price of units in Europe will be €166, a drop of 29%. Germany and the UK are the leading European markets, accounting for about half of all EU sales. Sales in Germany are set to grow by 105% to 1.1 million units, while sales in the UK will grow by 87%, also to 1.1 million units.
