Korean broadcasters KBS, SBS and MBC and manufacturers Samsung and LG have used the Seoul national exhibition for broadcast and media (KOBA) to make the first public demonstration of a new hybrid broadcast broadband TV system, dubbed Open Hybrid TV (OHTV).
According to the EBU, OHTV is broadly similar to the European HbbTV standard, incorporating full HTML and AVC video. Demonstrations at the Seoul show included EPGs, viewer recommendations and video-on-demand. The systems backers see OHTV as way to bring 3D services to terrestrial viewers via broadband or via non real-time VOD delivered over the air to DVR-enabled devices.
