Astra to launch 3D demo channel

Satellite operator SES Astra has announced plans to launch Europe’s first 3D TV demo channel.

The channel will be available free-to-air from May 4 and will initially target retailers and installers. It will broadcast from the operator’s 23.5° East orbital position, featuring 3D content covering sports, music and entertainment.

“The new Astra 3D demo channel demonstrates the huge advantages of satellite for the transmission of high quality 3D TV signals,” said Ferdinand Kayser, president and CEO of SES Astra.
