KPN to launch HD via IPTV

Dutch telco KPN is to launch an HDTV service over its IPTV platform.

The service will initially comprise HD versions of the three Dutch and two Flemish public broadcasters along with commercial channels Net 5, SBS 6 and Veronica and pay-TV channels Discovery HD and Animal Planet HD. The channels will be available in a package for €10 a month.

The HD service will be available in regions where KPN delivers IPTV over a VDSL2 network. According to the operator, its VDSL2 network covers over 80% of Dutch households. The operator has said it wants to build on its existing 23% share of the TV market.
