Teracom: focus on digital-terrestrial HDTV this year

Swedish transmission services company Teracom, owner of the Boxer TV digital-terrestrial TV platform, has reported revenues of SEK3.408bn (€334m), up 14% from SEK2.991bn the previous year. However, net profit fell to SEK269m from SEK460m, while operating income fell by 22% to SEK496m from SEK635m, due to the need for additional investment in the pay-TV platform.

Teracom began work on a sixth digital multiplex at the end of the year. The company said that in 2010 it would focus on developing HDTV channels on the terrestrial network.

Last year saw Teracom’s acquisition of a majority stake in Finnish digital-terrestrial pay-TV operator Plus TBV and the launch of Boxer in Denmark. The Danish operation had 45,000 subscribers by the end of the year. Customers across Sweden, Denmark and Finland numbered 968,500.
