Portugal Telecom continues rapid IPTV growth

Portugal Telecom added 62,000 IPTV subs in the third quarter, giving it a total of 505,000 Meo customers at the end of September, up 138.9% year-on-year.

Portugal’s incumbent telco now claims to have a 21% pay-TV market share in the country. It said over 50% of Meo customers have used the VOD service on a paid basis, consuming on average 2.6 movies per month.

Portugal Telecom ended September with 812,000 retail ADSL customers, up 19.6% year-on-year, after adding 32,000 subs during the third quarter. ARPU increased by 2.1% year-on-year during the quarter to €30.10 as a result of higher penetration of both TV and ADSL services, despite a lower contribution from voice revenues.

Operating revenue from PT’s retail wireline business was €239.9m, up 1.1% year-on-year. EBITDA was down 9.9% to €195.7m.
