Freeview households told to retune

The UK’s free-to-air DTT service Freeview is being upgraded, requiring more than 18 million households to retune their set-top boxes and integrated TVs.

Every Freeview-enabled set-top box, TV set and DVR, including BT Vision boxes, will need to be retuned from lunchtime today as the service makes changes that will eventually enable the broadcast of HD TV services over the DTT network. More homes will be able to receive channel Five following the upgrade and households that currently get the channel will lose it unless they retune.

Approximately 20,000 older set-tops will cease working after the upgrade.
