TF1 sees audience share slip

Leading French broadcaster TF1 saw its audience share slip to 25.9% last week, according to ratings outfit Mediametrie.

Despite the drop, of about half a ratings point, TF1 was the comfortable ratings leader ahead of public broadcast channel France 2. It was second and its share edged up last week at 16.2%, ahead of its commercial counterpart, RTL-backed M6.

The mainstream broadcasters have been steadily losing ground to their DTT counterparts through the year. In the twelve months to August the mainstream terrestrial channels share fell 6.1% to 71%. Between August 2008 and 2009, DTT channels’ combined audience share increased from 10.8% to 15.6%.
