BT Vision nears half million subs but take-up slows

BT is edging closer to the half million-subscriber mark for its BT Vision IPTV service. Take-up of the service is slowing, however, with the operator adding just 10,000 customers in the quarter to the end of June. It now has 433,000 subscribers.

In the three months to the end of December 2008, BT Vision added 56,000 new customers, while 43,000 new subscribers were added between December and March. In its latest quarterly results, BT said it had added 38,000 BT Vision customers, but that figure was given before inactive customers were taken into account.

BT remains the UK’s largest broadband provider after adding 78,000 new customers during the quarter, giving it a total of 4.8 million and a retail market share of 35%. BT Retail recorded revenues of £2.1bn (€2.5bn), down 2% year-on-year. EBITDA was up 26% to £476m.

Overall, BT reported revenues of £5.2bn for the quarter, up 1%, and reported EBIDTA was £1.3bn, down 2%.
