Teletext to shut down in January

Teletext, the text-based information service provided on UK analogue TV, will be shut down next year.

The service’s owner, Associated Newspapers, said it was bringing forward the closure of the service from digital switchover in 2012 and would also shut down some of its digital-terrestrial text services. The move follows regulator Ofcom’s announcement that it would not provide public funding for the services beyond 2014.
