Solaris Mobile makes insurance claim

Solaris Mobile, the Eutelsat/SES Astra mobile satellite joint-venture has announced that it is making an insurance claim because its S-band payload is showing “significant non-compliance from its original specifications”.

Solaris was awarded S-band spectrum to provide mobile satellite services according to the European Union’s European Selection and Authorisation Process. The company said it was still committed to providing these services but that it had filed a claim for “the full incurred value of the payload”.

Following an investigation, Solaris confirmed that the company should still be able to offer some “but not all” of the services it was planning to offer.

The S-band payload is hosted on Eutelsat’s W2A satellite, which was launched on April 3.
