Europe tops 12m IPTV subscribers

Europe is home to 12.5 million IPTV subscribers, according to the latest figures from industry body the Broadband Forum.

Western Europe ended the first quarter of the year with 11,375,200 subscribers, up 45.85% year-on-year, while eastern Europe saw growth of 109.38%, ending March with 1,158,673m subscribers.

In terms of broadband subscribers, western Europe saw a 10.76% year-on-year growth to a total of 108,074,172. Eastern Europe ended March with 23,613,159 subscribers, up 30.04%.

DSL continues to be the most popular broadband access technology, although fibre grew by more than three million lines to reflect a 12.4% share of the market, while wireless showed an increase of over one million lines to a total of 5.58 million.
