BBC protests BT broadband cap

UK public broadcaster the BBC has protested that telco BT is capping broadband speeds on its network to 896kbps, causing problems for users of its iPlayer online catch-up TV service.

BT has reportedly limited its up to 8Mbps service to 896kbps as it rations bandwidth to users during evening peak usage periods. The BBC has previously had disputes with ISPs, particularly Tiscali, over the demands placed on their network by the popularity of iPlayer.
