BSkyB slams Project Canvas

UK satellite pay-TV operator BSkyB has slammed Project Canvas – the joint venture internet-to-TV catch-up service operated by the BBC, ITV and telco BT – as part of its submission to the consultation process.

The pay broadcaster has submitted its consultation document to the BBC Trust and complains that there is “insufficient justification” for the project, which will allow digital terrestrial television viewers to catch-up with programmes.
Sky also asked the BBC Trust to submit Project Canvas to a full public value test as well as a market impact assessment from Ofcom. “The trust should subject the proposals to the highest level of scrutiny, in as transparent a way as possible, including submitting the proposals to a full public value test or equivalently robust procedure, with a market impact assessment conducted by Ofcom,” Sky noted in its submission.
