Irdeto launches CI+ module, signs new deals

Conditional access company Irdeto has announced that it will launch a Common Interface Plus (CI+) conditional access module next month.

Dutch cable operator Ziggo will be the first company to implement the CI+ module, which will be used by up to one million digital TV subscribers. Irdeto said that by adopting CI+, its customers will have the ability to give customers increased content protection providing a secure interface between the conditional access  and hosts, such as integrated digital TVs and common interface set-top boxes.

Separately, Scandinavian broadcaster Modern Times Group (MTG) and pay-TV sports broadcaster Setanta Sports have selected solutions from Irdeto for their respective on-demand services. MTG’s Viasat Broadcasting has chosen Irdeto to manage its internet-based on-demand service Viasat OnDemand, which allows customers in Sweden, Denmark and Norway to find, buy and view premium on-demand content.

Setanta Sports has selected Irdeto’s content management solution for its new on-demand service Setanta-i. Irdeto said it is working with Setanta Sports to develop a service for creating, managing and publishing live and on-demand content for distribution and consumption through multiple web properties on a free and pay basis. Setanta-i will offer high quality streaming at up to 1.8Mbps, a progressive user interface via Microsoft Silverlight and personalisation features such as favourites and playlists.
