LATAM SVOD revenues to reach US$8.5 billion

Revenues from subscription video services in Latin America are set to exceed US$8.5 billion by 2027.

The total of LATAM SVOD revenues will reach US$8.54 billion by 2027, an increase from US$5.01 billion in 2021.

Netflix will be the region’s largest player in terms of revenue, with a market share almost double that of second place Disney though a significant decrease from its 2021 share. Netfilx’s LATAM revenues are predicted to reach US$3.498 billion by 2027, while Disney’s 2027 total will be just over US$2 billion (made up of US$1.795 billion from Disney+ and US$324 million from Star+).

HBO will be in third (US$817 million) followed by Amazon (US$619 million) and Paramount+ (US$609 million).

Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “Netflix will introduce AVOD-SVOD tiers [one for Brazil and another pan-regional one for the Spanish-speaking countries] in 2024, with SVOD revenues and ARPUs falling slowly as some subscribers convert to cheaper packages.”

Overall, Latin America will have 139 million gross SVOD subscriptions by 2027, up from 75 million at the end of 2021. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Star+, Paramount+, Apple TV+ and HBO will account for 90% of the total subscriber base.
