BT Sport app to close, with new TNT Sports-dedicated app to replace

TNT SportsUK sport broadcaster, TNT Sports, has shut down the BT Sport app on Thursday, October 12, replaced by the the TNT Sports app and the discovery+ app becoming the new streaming destination for TNT Sports.

The app closes following the launch BT Group’s and Warner Bros. Discovery joint venture, TNT Sports in July, which replaced the former BT Sport.

On October 12, the BT Sport app closed and updated to become the TNT Sports app, a free news and results service.

Live sport content, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, UFC, Boxing and WWE, has been moved over to the discovery+ app.

discovery+ provides access to live and on-demand TNT Sports along with Eurosport content, including the Australian Open and French Open Grand Slams, Grand Tour cycling and next year’s Olympic Games Paris 2024. Only available to BT and Sky customers, access to discovery+ is included in the TNT Sports subscription.

TNT Sports said customers who have been watching via the BT Sport app, can activate their discovery+ account via BT or EE for no extra cost.

The discovery+ features for TNT Sports include replay live video easily and skip through key points in the game, stream on the go and selected live events available in 4K HDR quality, with immersive Dolby Atmos audio. On top of this, it provides timeline markers: highlighting events and giving cue points, text commentary giving a more in-depth summary of the game, Multi-Match/Multi-Cam: giving subscribers the opportunity to switch between matches, Personalised viewing carousel, where subscribers are served the best content options, Eurosport and Discovery’s real-life programming, including “Recommended For You” and “Because You Watched” personalised recommendations

TNT Sports said it will also introduce Goal Alerts and rugby Try Alerts feature on the app across the Warner Bros. Discovery Sports line-up, such as tennis, cycling and the Olympics.
