YouTube launches new AI tools to boost short video creation

YouTubeYouTube has launched a series of new features, including AI-infused tools, to help content creators.

The new tools include Dream Screen, a new experimental feature that allows creators to create AI-generated video or image backgrounds to shorts by typing an idea into a prompt.

According to YouTube, Dream Screen enables creators to set backgrounds such as outer space or an ‘enchanted forest’ simply by typing in the prompt.

The feature will begin testing later this year, ahead of a planned broader rollout next year.

YouTube is also launching a new mobile app called YouTube Create. Currently in beta on Android in select markets, YouTube Create is free of charge.

The app offers video editing tools including precision editing and trimming, automatic captioning, voiceover capabilities and access to a library of filters, effects, transitions and royalty-free music with beat matching technology so that creators can produce their next YouTube video without relying on complex editing software.

Other AI-enabled innovations meanwhile include AI-powered insights. Next year, YouTube Studio will tap generative AI to spark video ideas and draft outlines to help creators brainstorm. The insights will be personalized for each channel and based on what audiences are already watching on YouTube.

The platform will also launch Assistive Search in Creator Music, enabling creators to type in a description of content for AI to suggest the right music at the right price.

Finally, YouTube is adding Aloud, an AI-powered automatic dubbing tool to dub content into multiple languages.
