Rakuten Mobile CEO Tareq Amin steps down

Japan’s Rakuten Group has revealed Tareq Amin representative director and co-CEO of Rakuten Mobile and subsidiary Rakuten Symphony has departed the company after five years.

Amin joined the Rakuten Group company in 2018, where he first served as chief technology officer and later took up the additional role of chief executive officer of Rakuten Symphony and Rakuten Mobile.

The former chief was behind the launch of Rakuten Symphony in August 2021 where he took the company from start-up to an industry leader. Amin has overseen the creation of the industry’s first modern, industrial-scale automation platform built specifically for telecom.

Following his depature, Rakuten group chairman and CEO Mickey Mikitani has been appointed as representative director, chairman and CEO. While, Sharad Sriwastawa was also named representative director and acting president.

The pair start their roles with immediate effect where they will responsible for leading the company and advancing its commercial interests.

Sriwastawa who was hired by Rakuten Mobile in 2018, will also be tasked with advancing the progress of Rakuten Symphony’s innovative telco solutions as the company’s acting president.

Amin who took to LinkedIn to comment on its depature, said: “During my time at Rakuten, I am proud to have been part of a team that has disrupted the industry and left a lasting impact on the world. We have challenged the status quo and pioneered new approaches that have transformed the way telecom Networks are build, architected and operated . This disruption has not only shaped the industry but has also brought positive change to the lives of many.”
