RTVE adds four digital channels to offering

Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE has revealed it has added the four new thematic digital channels Era, We are Cinema, Crime and The Promise to its offering.

We are Cinema channel already launched on RTVE in June, showcases Spanish films from RTVE’s film catalogue from 4pm to midnight. The channel broadcasts content grouped by genres, themes, directors, actors and actresses, but will complete the broadcast hours with a lineup of Spanish film titles from all eras. The new channel also offers viewers to stream  programming.

While staring from this month, RTVE’s series-only digital channel Era will air content from its period drama programming. The Crime channel will house true crime documentaries, including Spanish titles El asesino de la baraja, Lucía en la telaraña and La caza. The 24-hour channel The Promise inspired by the drama of the same title, will showcase all the episodes of the series on a loop.

Crime and Era channels will also have introduce a 24-hour broadcast of its programming in August.

RTVE said the four new channels of the RTVE Play digital offer are the first step in the strategy of creating linear digital channels to increase and improve the distribution of the best RTVE content.

Director of platforms and channels of RTVE, Alessia Di Giacomo said: “Today’s radio and television activity cannot be conceived without a powerful and determined digital commitment: “With the creation of new thematic channels, we want the greatest number of viewers come into contact and enjoy the content. The value lies in being able to reach new audiences, which are complementary to traditional channels through a differentiated thematic offer that takes advantage of the opportunities offered by digital transmission”.
