BBC Scotland extends SPFL rights until 2029

Pubcaster BBC Scotland has signed a new and extended deal with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) to air live television coverage of matches through to 2029.

BBC Scotland will continue to provide coverage of 20 live Championship matches, cinch Premiership TV highlights, radio commentaries, online and social media content.

The new agreement extends BBC Scotland’s SPFL rights by four years, with the former deal due to expire in 2025.

Louise Thornton, head of commissioning, BBC Scotland said: “We’re delighted we’ve reached this agreement with the SPFL which further strengthens our commitment to provide extensive coverage of the top tiers of the game. Live Championship football has become a popular fixture of the Friday night schedule on the BBC Scotland channel, so it’s great news that will continue for at least another five seasons. Combining that with the broad slate of live radio coverage and tv and online highlights from the Premiership over the same period is brilliant news for our audiences.”

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster added: “This long-term extension of our partnership with the BBC is great news for fans, for our clubs and for the SPFL. It follows our record-breaking deal with Sky Sports last season and guarantees the widest possible audience for what promises to be a cracking season ahead.
