Canal+ streaming service launches in Czech Republic and Slovakia

Canal+ has expanded its footprint in Czech Republic and Slovakia, with the launch of its new streaming platform in the region.

The digital platform will house European films and series, international blockbusters and local productions.

It will also provide its seven Canal+ produced linear channels, including Canal+ Sport which launched in both territories last year to host the exclusive rights of English Premier League matches.

Its catalogue also includes content from Studiocanal, PROROM, ALL3Media, Fremantle and Paramount. While debuting its Canal+ original productions to Czech and Slovak viewers such as the Italian-French series Django launching May 4 and Polish series Kruk.

The streaming service is priced at approximately €8 per month.

Jacques du Puy, CEO of Canal+ International commented: “The Czech Republic and Slovakia are important markets for the group in terms of subscribers. This launch is the result of our strategy initiated a year ago through the broadcasting of Premier League, aimed to offer a complete range of premium content (sports and series in particular) in Czech Republic as well as in Slovakia, under the Canal+ brand.”

“In line with the group’s strategy, we want to assert our role as a distributor but also as a producer of our own sports content, films and series. The launch of this platform fully meets this challenge” added Ladislav Řeháček, VP of Canal+ Luxembourg for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Canal+ is the leading satellite operator in the Czech Republic and Slovakia via M7 Group’s Skylink brand. The group also recently launched Canal+ Action in the two countries.
