AVOD revenues to more than double by 2028Digital TV Research predicts global AVOD revenues for TV series and movies will more than double from 2022 to 2028, reaching $91 billion.

In its latest report, the research media outfit expects AVOD revenues for TV series and movies will increase by $50 billion from the $41 billion recorded in 2022.

The US will contribute 41% to the 2028 total, adding $20 billion to the pot between 2022 and 2028.

The report further notes by 2028, nine platforms will generate AVOD revenues in excess of $3 billion, including five global, three from the US and one from China.

“Disney+ will be the AVOD winner, with $11.4 billion by 2028. Disney+ is expected to follow its US example by converting its existing subscribers to the hybrid AVOD-SVOD tier, with SVOD-only subscribers having to choose to pay more,” added Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research.

Paramount+ and YouTube follows behind Disney+ generating $5.4 billion and $5 billion respectively by 2028.  While Hulu US will deliver $4.7 billion, with Netflix and Peacock US both reaching $4.6 billion.

Digital TV Research also expects HBO to produce $4.3 billion, with Roku US at $3.1 billion and Pluto US at $3 billion.

The research media firm recently reported global pay TV revenues will fall to $125 billion in 2028, with a $26 billion loss of global pay TV revenues from $151 billion in 2022. This will also be a $71 billion drop from 2016 when global pay TV revenues peaked at $199 billion.
