Comprimato adds JPEG-XS TR-07 to live transcoder

Software-based encoding and transcoding tech specialist Comprimato is to highlight the latest version of its live transcoder software at NAB 2023 following its addition of JPEG-XS TR-07 capability to the offering.

Already used for JPEG2000 contribution circuits, Comprimato’s live transcoder also supports NDI, and now has added JPEG-XS TR-07, making it a powerful and flexible solution for high performance connectivity, according to the company.

The solution developed by Comprimato uses the parallel processing power of standard GPUs, which means quality for broadcast contribution and distribution circuits can be achieved with encoding and transcoding appliances on premises or in the cloud, the company said.

The COTS approach achieves quality at a significantly lower price point than other approaches, and also means that the software can be implemented in conjunction with other vendors’ software, Comprimato said.

“At Comprimato we were leaders in the use of visually lossless JPEG2000 for long-distance contribution circuits. That continues to prove highly effective, but as JPEG-XS has reached maturity in the VSF TR-07 transport stream, so there is growing interest in this lightweight, low latency codec, and we have moved to add it to the Live Transcoder environment,” said Jiri Matela, CEO of Comprimato.

“Our open architecture also allows us to collaborate with other vendors, including AJA Video Systems and InSync, who will both be at NAB. Broadcasters and production companies working in live events and remote production demand the highest quality, including Ultra HD, with as low latency as possible. Working with partners like these we can provide a single touch solution that delivers crystal clear image quality at the optimum bitrate: a very attractive offering for users.”
