Extreme E reports 30% rise in audience to 135m for season two

Off-road electric racing series Extreme E has reported strong growth in its global audience figures for the 2022 season, rising more than 30% year on year to 135m viewers. The figures were released as Extreme E gets ready for its third season.

Ali Russell, chief marketing officer at Extreme E, said: “It’s fantastic to see Extreme E’s audience has continued to grow substantially. Our core fan base has grown across multiple channels and platforms in 2022 so it’s a assuring sign that our mix of purpose driven mission, stunning locations, and thrilling racing action, is attracting audiences.”

The 135m figure comprises 90.5m viewers on linear TV and 44.5m on digital platforms including extreme-e.com which offered live streaming of all televised sessions. With the five-event season three launching in Neom, Saudi Arabia, on March 11/12, Extreme E says it is currently shown by 90 broadcasters in over 200 territories.

Charlie Dundas, managing director at YouGov Sport, called the figures “a superb health check for Extreme E. It is hugely positive to see a new motorsport outperforming the market with the younger generation and a greater gender balance.”
